My wife and I have a Hobie Mirage Tandem kayak we bought a couple of years ago, and we love making trips out in Santa Rosa Sound and Pensacola Bay. On calm days we go out in the Gulf of Mexico. The Spirit Sail is a great addition – easy to put up and take down on the water. We bought the full size sail and take it with us always. When the wind picks up, voilà! — we’re ready to sail to save leg power. We have learned to take advantage of the wind from any direction, with the exception of a direct head wind.
I mounted the base (for the V-yoke and sail) on a board (2×4) with two supporting “legs” resting on the sides of the kayak’s hull. A vertical support block under the base braces up against the narrow area between the seats for added stability. The base is thus positioned slightly above the hull between the two seats near the middle of the kayak. It works like a charm!
Your sail has made it possible for my wife and me to take longer, more challenging trips and to explore the area’s beautiful sights.

Thanks for sending me the 4 suction cups. The spirit sail rig I bought 4 years ago has been wonderful. My wife and I love having the sail do most of the work when we take the tandem out. I regularly use it on my single kayak and often tow a fellow paddler. I have no suggestions for you because I can’t think of a better design.
